Brickscape Cafe is Closing

Dear friends,

I have some hard news to share: Brickscape Cafe is closing. Our last day will be October 14th.

I keep starting this a dozen different ways and none of them feel like enough.

Brickscape started as a popup back in 2022 — folding tables, LEGO bricks, a few themed beverages, and a lot of hope that we could build a unique environment to help our community connect and to support people facing various challenges through play.

Your support allowed us to grow from popups to a brick-and-mortar retail store, to a larger retail store, to an even larger space with a full coffee and smoothie bar and a makerspace. Along the way, we were honored to win six Best of Longmont awards, eight Community Votes awards, and a #6 ranking among Colorado toy stores from Business Rate. None of that happens without a community — it was one I never could have built alone.

We also got to partner with so many people doing good work in this town: the City of Longmont, Longmont Museum, Longmont Library, Aspen Center, Burlington Elementary, Central Elementary, Main Street School, Longmont High School, Rocky Mountain Pathfinders, Wonder Years, Imagine, Inclusive Acres, and Colorado Kids Belong. Together, we opened our doors to foster families, neurodiverse kids and adults, kids and adults with developmental disabilities, and seniors — creating a space where building something with your hands and connecting with your community is all that matters.

As many of you know, we were even starting to plan Brickscape’s next chapter — turning it into a nonprofit, so this work could keep growing long after any one person’s ability to run a small business. That felt like the right next step for what this place had become. But leading that transition takes time and energy I don’t have right now, due to personal events in my life. That’s the honest reason we’re closing instead of moving ahead.

I’m not going to pretend this isn’t sad. This place has been full of some of my favorite moments — kids bursting with imagination, regulars who became friends, quiet mornings with coffee and bricks everywhere. I’ll miss all of it, and I’ll miss all of you.

We haven’t decided yet whether Brickscape Cafe might reopen someday, exist in some other form, or whether our summer camps will continue somewhere else. If that changes, you’ll be the first to know (please sign up to our mailing list).

Come by before October 14th if you can. Grab a coffee, build something, say hi. Please make sure to use any gift cards and loyalty points before then. We’ll also be selling our equipment and LEGO-themed furnishings if you’re interested.
